Based in Austin, Texas, singer-songwriter Patrice Pike is proud for being known as an "eclectic" artist, mixing guitar-oriented rock with soulful singing.
It must be working because Pike landed a spot on the CBS reality show "Rock Star: Supernova" last year, where she competed for a chance to be lead singer in a band featuring former Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee.
"They wanted to bring rock to mainstream TV. I liked that a lot more than being in the band they were auditioning for," Pike said. "It was fun for me, though, because my whole intention in playing music is communicating. And being able to play music for millions of people around the world, eventually being able to play my own music there ... I mean, who's gonna say no to that?"
While Pike didn't win on the show, she was this year's big winner at the Austin Music Awards, where she won Musician of the Year and three other awards, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
"In Austin, you don't win awards for being on TV. It can actually wreck your credibility. So, it was really validating for me," she said. "I'm a musician. I'm also a writer. I love the art of writing and communication through words." "Tracy M. Rogers
