Punk-rock garage sale offering music, movies and memorabilia

Rock culture will be paired up with the bargain-hunting lifestyle Saturday at The Conservatory for the 5th Quasi-Annual Garage Sale/Show & Birthday Party.

The idea for the sale came from Jenny Nickell of Norman, whose husband plays in punk band The Dwarves. They had movies, music, magazines and interesting memorabilia to get rid of, but a traditional garage sale just didn't seem the right venue.

The first was held in 2002.

One can expect lots of CDs, DVDs and posters, plus:
" members of one of the featured bands will be selling records from their personal collections;
" local ceramic artist Nicole Moan will be there with some one-of-a-kind switch plates and tiles;
" will offer clothes and accessories;
" and other items up for grabs include everything from vintage swimwear to "Star Wars" collectibles.

Bands of wildly varying stripes will perform, including:
" The R.I.P. Tides,
" Los Hijos Del Diablo,
" Crocodile,
" I Resign,
" Stevedore,
" Pigpen's Mess,
" Son of Sam Walton and
" Klipspringer.

"I really couldn't be prouder of this year's lineup," said Hendrickson, one of the event's founders. "This is a community service event designed to highlight the local music scene. It's a great opportunity to come out and get a sampling of what the state has to offer." "Tory Troutman
