I love them although they make my (already pretty out-of-control) hair look like Ive been living for three weeks with squirrels in a briar patch prone to humidity. Exactly like that.
The only thing I possibly love more than rainy days are rain boots. I tend to call them Wellies, due to my annoying case on unceasing Anglophilia, but whatever you call them galoshes, Wellingtons or giggle-inducing rubbers theyre fabulous.
And theyre really, really fabulous in leopard print. Yup, leopard print. You can find those saucy little beauties by Däv at The Lime Leopard (12204 N. May; 755-3456).
The Northpark Mall shop has two styles of Däv Wellies. Also check out a very pretty pair in pearlescent pink that have a riding boot shape (meaning the outside of the calf arches higher than the inside). This pair also stands out with a quilted rubber band along the top and a cant-miss lace-up at the back that starts at about the mid-calf. So cool.
At Tiger Lily, Kinsey Ellegard sports Madeline boots, a Venezia Milano raincoat and a Vera Bradley umbrella.
In Nichols Hills Plaza, C/K and Co. (6419 Avondale Drive; 848-5903) carries the classic Hunter rain boot in great colors like pink, purple, navy and red. Also look for a Tory Burch boot patterned in the lines iconic emblem and a heeled Kate Spade boot in black with a bow around the calf.
C/K and Co. also has a lovely allweather coat by McGinn. The navy coat is a classic, belted trench, but has a great detail in the loose, oversized collar.
If Im going to be stomping through puddles, I dont want to be wearing something staid.
Finally, get kitted out head to toe in cute rain gear at Tiger Lily (1489 E. 15th in Edmond; 285-5764). Lets start at the top. Tiger Lily has a large collection of the always-popular Vera Bradley, and for the rainy spring, this includes umbrellas. They are splashed with the same colorful patterns as the bags my favorite was a retro-style floral in salmon, red and orange. The umbrellas are compact, so theyre great for stowing away in a large-ish purse.
Tiger Lily also has some cute allweather coats in from Luii. Look for more traditional raincoats in colors like bright orange, tan or black with cool details like gold buttons and ruching. Or if you want something really fun, check out the classic trench by Luii done in tan and black zebra print.
Tiger Lily also carries a line of seriously unique rain boots by Madeline.
Unlike the classic Hunter shape, these look like Technicolor, rubber cowboy boots, with the pointed toe, heel and everything.
The prints are bright and eyecatching (like one splashed with comicstyle illustrations), but isnt that how rain boots should be? If Im going to be walking or, honestly, splashing and stomping through rain and puddles in calf-high rubber boots, I dont want to be wearing something staid.
Now we all just need a reason to wear them.
