The funeral for Donda West, mother of chart-topping hip-hop performer Kanye West, was held at a metro church on Nov. 20, according to various press reports.
The 58-year-old Oklahoma City native, a 1967 Douglass High School graduate, former college professor and Chicago State University English department chair, died in Marina Del Rey, Calif., on Nov. 10, possibly from complications from cosmetic surgery, an official said.
Donda West stepped down as an educator in 2004, and joined her son to oversee his business interests, according to The Associated Press. Kanye West flew from Europe, where he is headlining his "Glow in the Dark Tour," to attend the funeral in Oklahoma City, according to reports.
Scores of Kanye West's fans lined city streets to catch a glimpse of the funeral procession, stories said. And although no television crews or press photographers were allowed to attend, rapper Jay-Z and singers Beyoncé Knowles, John Legend and Anita Baker accompanied the West family to the private funeral at True Vine Ministries church in Spencer.
In other news, Dr. Jan Adams, the plastic surgeon who operated on Donda West prior to her death, briefly appeared and then walked out of a television interview with Larry King. The official cause of Donda West's death isn't known, pending a toxicology report.
