Unofficial results from the Oklahoma County Election Board show that Hardin, a former development officer for the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics, received 51 percent of the vote, or 3,376 total votes.
An entrepreneur and founder of Friends of Northwest Classen High School Foundation, Hardin had outraised Monson by a nearly 5-to-1 margin in the race, according to the latest campaign reports covering the period between Dec. 11, 2012, and Jan. 28. Hardin raised $47,275, while Monson, a former state senator, raised $10,305.
Hardin entered the contest with several civic leaders on her campaign steering committee, including two former Oklahoma City mayors, Kirk Humphreys and Ron Norick, and Sonic CEO Cliff Hudson. Both Humphreys and Hudson also have served as school board chairman.
In addition, Hardin had several high-profile donors who gave $1,000 or more to her campaign, including Oklahoma City Thunder majority owner Clay Bennett, OG&E CEO Peter Delaney, Devon Energy CEO Larry Nichols, American Floral Services founder Herman Meinders and Chesapeake Energy CEO Aubrey McClendon.
In addition, the American Federation of Teachers PAC and the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce PAC each donated $1,000.
In the district’s other board races, Bob Hammack easily defeated E. Jann Maultsby for the open board seat No. 1. For the No. 2 race, Justin Ellis received 66 percent of the vote over incumbent Gail Vines, who endorsed her opponent after deciding she did not want to run again.
