Jeff Stokes wants the Individual Artists of Oklahoma Gallery to give voice to artists who might not have one otherwise. Key to that continuing mission? Scooters.

Yes, scooters.

The third annual "Rally on the Row" fundraiser is 7-11 p.m. Friday at IAO, 706 W. Sheridan. The event showcases classic scooters, as well as scooter-related art, film and performances. Proceeds benefit the nonprofit's programming.

So why scooters?

"There's more movement towards 'green' in society ... and scooters are kind of a cool, urban thing that people are starting to get into to kill a few birds with one stone," said Stokes, IAO's executive director. "And so I was interested in the culture that surrounded scooters, and that turned into vintage motorcycles as well."

That culture includes a lot of creativity, from tattoos to artists themselves, he said. And Stokes hopes to put those creative people on display Friday night. After all, the gallery's main objective is supporting the creative community, particularly those who specialize in provocative or experimental work.

And this year, the gallery will spread the love and take its show on the road. The artwork will be exhibited in Ada in August and September, just in time for a vintage motorcycle rally coming to town.

But there's more to "Rally on the Row" than art. There will also be live music and food from local restaurants, like Prairie Gypsies Catering and The Whole Enchilada, as well as a bar.

For those who fully embrace the scooter theme, they can enter a raffle for a new Vespa LX150. Raffle tickets can be purchased for $5 each or $20 for five.

Admission is $5. For tickets or more information, call 232-6060 or visit"?Nicole Hill
