Somehow, the eighth annual Farmers Insurance Group of Companies’ ranking of the most secure places to live in America lists Oklahoma City as 18th in the category of large metro areas. (Pittsburgh, for the record, ranks No. 1.)

Among the considerations in compiling the data are extreme weather and risk of natural disasters. Then again, so are terrorist threats, and we all know you can’t pass through Des Moines, Iowa (19th on the list) without someone strapping a dirty bomb to your torso.
