State Fairgrounds hosts monthly flea market

Treasures, antiques and home decorations can be found each month at the Buchanan's Vintage Flea Market.

The market is held the first weekend of every month at Oklahoma State Fair Park, 333 Gordon Cooper, said manager Bryan Buchanan.

The market started in 1980 and has vendors from around the state and beyond.

"We sell a little bit of everything. It's an upper-scale flea market," he said.

WEEKEND PASS
A $3 weekend pass lets visitors peruse items from fishing, hunting and sports equipment to glassware, pottery and jewelry, he said.

Shoppers never know what they'll find at the market. Buchanan said an older woman who had lost all belongings in a house fire when she was young spotted a picture of herself as a baby that was for sale at the market.

The sellers didn't make her pay for it, however, he said.

"It's a big treasure hunt," he said. "It's a lot of fun history and memorabilia."

The flea market is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday inside the Modern Living Building. For more information, call 844-6055. "Jamie Birdwell
