Annual rental notices typically are mailed by April 1 for the upcoming boat season, said Debbie Ragan, spokeswoman for Oklahoma City’s Department of Utilities. The decision to suspend or cancel the renewals will be made later this month.
A resolution adopted yesterday by Oklahoma City Council gives Marsha Slaughter, Department of Utilities director, the authority to suspend the rentals and to reinstate them at a later date if needed.
If the rentals are suspended and later reinstated, the rental fee would drop, depending on the amount of time left in the boating season. A slip rental is good from May 1, 2013, to April 30, 2014.
People who have rented boat slips in the past will be given first right of refusal on stalls they traditionally rent, Ragan said.
Lake Hefner’s water level is five feet below normal, which is 1,199 feet above sea level. Weather forecasts call for a 10 percent chance of rain Friday through Sunday.
