Take me out to Newcastle ...

So imagine our surprise, then, that the Oklahoma City RedHawks ballpark is now named for a casino. For an undisclosed sum, the Chickasaw Nation purchased naming rights to the Bricktown ballpark, slapping on the name of Newcastle Field at Bricktown in honor of its gaming center in the rustic hamlet of Newcastle.
An Oklahoma City ballpark named for a place other than Oklahoma City?

Naming rights purchased by a tribe currently embroiled in a legal battle with OKC over water rights?

Cats and dogs living together?

Maybe we’re being silly. After all, nothing says baseball like a celebration of gambling, the very phenomenon that has come close to killing the sport several times. We guess it’s a good thing no steroid manufacturers made a bid.

What’s next: Airports named after people who died in airplane crashes? Oh, wait ...

Well, that didn't last long. After a full day as Newcastle Field at Bricktown, the Chickasaw Nation and RedHawks have bowed to an onslaught of negative reaction to the new name. The newer new name is now the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

"I'm continually impressed with this ownership group," said Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett. "I appreciate the RedHawks and Chickasaw Nation listening to the concerns of their fans and Oklahoma City residents and taking action."

Looks like all involved parties ultimately know how to play ball when it comes to outraged baseball fans.
