Admittedly, Ive had to ask others who will be competing for the title of ultimate football team. I assume thats what theyre competing for in Sundays Super Bowl XLVII.
Anyway, its a big deal for many, and thats OK. Besides, Super Bowl parties are fun for many reasons. Usually, theyre at someones house, which is comfortable. Its acceptable and encouraged to wear T-shirts and other attire thats fit for eating large amounts of snack foods and lounging on couches.
First, youll need to set the theme, which is easy when the affair is for a specific, once-a-year event. Party Galaxy (several metro locations) has been my go-to consultant for any soiree Ive had a hand in hosting.
The store has everything and often items you might not even have considered. For Sundays match-up between the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens (my dogged research paid off), you can get fully stocked on gridiron gear like football plates and napkins.
Get specific with the Super Bowl XLVII logo on beverage napkins, table centerpieces, table covers or party cups. All those little touches are a fun way to make your party a touchdown with the football-faithful.
What will you feed all these guests? Of course there will be dips and little smoked sausages, as well as the token fruit-and-veggie tray for that one health-conscious friend.
But any party is made better by cookies. Make it cookies decorated specifically for the event at hand, and the crowd goes wild!
At 1 Smart Cookie (12100 N. Rockwell; 721-5959), grab a dozen cookies that sport team colors or ones shaped like footballs. Splurge on a cookie cake with icing that reads Super Bowl XLVII.
And when the game is over, send your guests off with a bag of candy, too. Get the party favor bags at Party Galaxy, then create a candy bar with goods from 42nd Street Candy Co. (4200 N. Western; 521-8337). From hard-coated chocolate candies to gummies, picking out colorful candies to represent the 49ers and Ravens will be fun and easy.
