The Harry Potter Alliance hosts wizard-rock band event

Seven of the best wizard-rock bands have been conjured for an anti-genocide benefit concert.

The Saturday event is hosted by the Oklahoma Wizards League, a local chapter of The Harry Potter Alliance " an organization that advocates political and community action by paralleling real-world events with those depicted in the "Harry Potter" book series.

Proceeds from the 5 to 11 p.m. "Mistletoe Masquerade" at Oklahoma City University's Grand Ballroom, 2501 N. Blackwelder, will be directed to Darfur relief efforts organized by the Genocide Intervention Network. The ball will feature performances by The Whomping Willows, Oliver Boyd & The Remembralls, and The Remus Lupins.

"These are all well-known wizard-rock acts," said local wizard and O.W.L. organizer Erin Ferrell. "It'll be a great show. You don't even have to be a wizard or love wizard rock. You just have to love great music or hate genocide."

Ferrell said O.W.L. is actively seeking local "Harry Potter" fans to join the five-member group, which was recently founded.

"It's a really accepting community," Ferrell said about both the local group and other Harry Potter Alliance chapters, "But, let's face it: They kind of have to be."

Tickets are $35 for adults, $15 for children.
