Tornado Alley Roller Girls assemble travel team

Oklahoma City's Tornado Alley Roller Girls have been taking their skates, elbow pads and high-octane antics on the road recently with their new off-season travel team, the Trailer Thrashers. 

One of the team's new co-captains, Brooke Burleson, aka Sally Strych9, said the new team is comprised of 20 players from the league's four teams.

"We got the best 20 players from all four teams," Burleson said. "I have no doubt we're going to succeed."

The Trailer Thrashers had their first official bout last week in Fayetteville, Ark., against the NWA Rollergirls' all-star Arkansas Killbillies team. However, Burleson said the new team already got its feet wet at the Route 66 Rebellion in Tulsa July 13, playing against teams from Arkansas, Kansas and Oklahoma. 

Alley Hunter, aka Ivanna Hurtem, the Trailer Thrashers' other co-captain, said the team clicked immediately at the Route 66 Rebellion.

"It was the first time to play together; we never even practiced," Hunter said. "We ended up walking away with second place, which was more than we expected." 

Burleson said with the Trailer Thrashers' first bouts out of the way, they plan to schedule a travel match each month through the off-season, which goes through December. The regular season will start again in January.
