Two Oklahomans use their drum skills in national competition

Out of nearly 4,000 entrants, two Oklahomans will stick it to the skins tomorrow as part of Guitar Center's 2010 Drum-Off.

As individual store winners on Sept. 23, Jemar Poteat of Oklahoma City and James Canada of Tulsa advanced to Thursday's district finals, which will take place in Texas. The ultimate national winner, to be crowned in January in Los Angeles, will take home more than $43,000 of prizes, including $25,000 cash, a custom drum kit, an article in Modern Drummer magazine and an endorsement deal with Monster Energy Drink.

Billed as "the world's largest drumming competition," the Drum-Off is now in its 22nd year. Past victors have scored professional gigs with Prince and Jay-Z. For more information, visit www.guitarcenter.com. "Rod Lott
