In
a video of the encounter, an unidentified female church member (the
videographer) confronted Gill about his 13-year marriage to Christian
singer-songwriter Amy Grant.
Vince Gill, what in the world are you doing out here? she asked.
I just came to see what hate looked like, he replied.
Well,
more importantly, what are you doing with another mans wife? she
asked. Dont you know that divorce plus remarriage equals adultery?
"Jesus Christ said that.
Calmly,
he said, Dont you know that you fuckers are lucky that you dont have
a sign that says something about my wife? She repeated, Jesus Christ
said that.
Did he?
Gill asked, his voice still calm. You know what else he said? He said a
lot of stuff about forgiveness, about grace. You guys dont have any of
that.
Gill then turned to an offscreen protestor. Ive seen you on TV, man. Youre a big dipshit. You know that, dont you? he asked.
I dont care what you think, the man said.
You dont? asked Gill. Then why are you out here? ...
...
This is my duty, the man said. Gill looked around and asked if any of
the protesters were Phelpses, members of the founding family of the
church, or just the C-team.
God bless Vince Gill for standing up to those wacko zealots and for standing up for his marriage.
