Do you like it fruity? How about oaky? Its all up to you when youre creating your very own bottle of wine at Vintners Cellar, 1389 E. 15th in Edmond.
We do a wine tasting to determine their palate the sweetness level, the dryness level, the amount of acidity or oak and then we schedule an appointment to actually make the wine that they choose, said Todd Hall, owner of Vintners Cellar. They choose a varietal and then we can customize it to their palate.
Vintners, open since 2007, is also a full retail wine shop, but its made its mark in those extras, like the customized wine.
Once guests be it a couple, group or even a business have settled on a wine, Vintners produces the wine. It can take anywhere from eight to 12 weeks, depending on the type of wine. Hall said a fruit wine will be ready in about eight weeks; a white will take between eight and nine weeks; and a red will take between nine and 12 weeks.
Once its ready, he said, we host a bottling party for them, and theyre actually able to come in and bottle, cork, cap and put their own custom label on the bottle.
In Broken Bow, Girls Gone Wine got its start because of a similar customized-wine adventure. Owners and friends Michelle Finch, Chandra Rickey and Rhonda Reed were inspired during a road trip that took them to a winery where they made their own batch of vino.
The winery opened in 2006 and has been offering free wine tastings of the Girls Gone Wine wines, a sassy and irreverent gift shop and the option to create customized wine ever since.
They can come and make their own batch, just like we did on that trip that set this whole thing in motion, Finch said.
Like at Vintners, its a two-step process that starts with determining just what type of wine guests want and ends with a bottling and corking session five to nine weeks later.
Its amazing how creative people can be, Finch said of the process, which includes creating a custom label for the wine.
Back in Vintners in Edmond, Hall said their amateur winemakers have made wine for birth announcements, proposals, business gifts and more. And its not just wine snobs customizing their own wine.
We have novices that come in that are just learning about wine, to wine connoisseurs who want to put their own fingerprint on their very own wine.
Beyond creating special wines, Vintners also hosts wine dinners and even just returned from its inaugural wine cruise that led 18 of the shops customers around the Caribbean with programs specially tailored to their wine interests.
you dont necessarily need to head to the Caribbean for a weekend wine
adventure. A new local business, 4 Ever Girlfriends, leads winery and
spa trips to state wineries all chauffeured in a limo. The business just
opened in April and is owned by friends Liz Huston and Georgia Neil.
had been out to California to the wineries out there, Huston said of
the companys inspiration. I really didnt realize how many wineries
there were here until I really started checking into it. I dont think
there is anybody else that does this.
are day trips and weekend trips available. The day trips head to Stroud
or Anadarko and include winery visits, tastings and a lunch. The
weekend trip heads to Broken Bow home of Girls Gone Wine, one of the
wineries visited and includes meals, lodging and a spa day.
Huston said 4 Ever Girlfriends is perfect for groups of friends, but also couples. The limo holds 10.
Gone Wine is also helping its visitors make a weekend out of it. Finch
said the winery has a sister company, Creative Escapes, which rents out
30 luxury cabins in the Broken Bow area.
addition to the winery, Broken Bow is home to Beavers Bend State Park,
so there are a number of options for creating a whole weekend.
can put together anything from a pampered weekend where you have an
in-cabin masseuse come to your cabin, do the winery, do nice dinners
or outdoorsy, Finch said. Theres just tons to do.
And it all starts with a glass of wine.
