Dresses at Lime Leopard
Thankfully, that last bit of the line isn’t quite true, and I am blessed with alcohol-loving friends.
I’ve got two big weddings coming up in the next month. One is just a couple weeks away (oh, my God, you two, are you freaking out yet?), and I’m the maid of honor in the other. (Yes, I know it should be “matron,” but that title only sounds appropriate if it’s followed by “… of the Pembroke Academy for Orphaned Girls.”) Look, I forced a full Catholic mass on all my wedding guests, so you’re never going to hear me say a peep about attending my friends’ nuptials, but let’s get through all this extra church time by focusing on the positives: new dresses and free booze.
I loved the diverse selection at The Webb (2001 W. Main; 321-8289) in Norman. The dresses — and there’s a lot to choose from in this upscale, lovely shop — are lined up along the back wall, and range from casual and formal to short and long.
For an evening wedding, I especially liked the shorter shift and sheath dresses accented with sequins. Look for a semi-backless (but still classy) dress done in an all-over sequin of muted silvery-gray by Mark & James by Badgley Mischka or a cap-sleeved dress accented with a subtle sequin pattern in black by Tadashi Shoji.
For more casual dresses that are still wedding-ready, check out cute, patterned ones by Muse, Yoanna Baraschi and BCBG Max Azria. For the rest of the outfit, The Webb also carries great shoes and jewelry.
In Northpark Mall, Lime Leopard (12204 N. May; 755-3456) has some wonderful choices for both casual, day time affairs and evening weddings. To make it easy, the more formal cocktail dresses are all clustered in a “boutiquewithin-a-boutique” section.
I loved a particularly cool silk dress by Cynthia Steffe, done in a light silk patterned in a soft pink and black pattern. The prettiness was toughened with a bold silver zipper detail that ran up the top front.
Among the other lovely Steffe dresses (many with that same exposed zipper detailing), check out the Frock by Tracy Reese offerings. I really liked one in a stripy blue-cream-black geometric pattern done in a ladylike ’50s shape, complete with skirt-boosting crinoline hiding underneath.
Lime Leopard has a new line in from Maginn that includes some seriously pretty dresses. Check out one V-neck, beautifully-draped dress done in a buttery cream and yellow floral pattern, or an impossibly airy peacock blue dress with a daintily pleated skirt and raw silk accents.
On the more casual side (but again, all still lovely for a wedding), look for very pretty dresses by lines like Judith March (retro-chic!), Fumblin’ Foe and Akiko.
No matter how many “I do”s you need to get through this wedding season, these dresses can see you to the end — or at least to the open bar.
