Coburn told The New York Times that being a lawmaker on the national level provides plenty of temptations to be corrupt, just like hitting the slots and roulettes in Vegas.
He said both cities can take advantage of one’s weaknesses and admits he hasn’t always been immune.
With his departure set for January, Coburn said his biggest failing in office has been his occasional lack of communication skills to change the minds of his colleagues and those on the other side of the aisle. He was also quick to criticize D.C.’s pit boss, President Obama, for failing to unite the nation and achieve his goals of change. Coburn can speak candidly since he is cashing out his chips in Washington after a recent prostate cancer diagnosis.
