The issue arose last month on a Sirius/XM radio program, when the Minnesota Vikings running back and former University of Oklahoma All-American was asked about former teammate Chris Kluwe, an outspoken gay rights advocate.
I have relatives who are gay. Im not biased toward them. I still treat them the same. I love em, Peterson said. But again, Im not with that. Thats not something I believe in. But to each his own.
Translation: He treats them the same; he just thinks they should be treated differently. Got it?
In a separate interview with The Oklahoman, when asked whether hed be content with a gay teammate, the NFLs reigning MVP said it really wouldnt bother me that much.
Except, you know, that whole shower thing.
Simple things, as far as showers and things like that, you know, of course, anyone would be uncomfortable, he said.
But you know, Im a grown man. Theres things that I can deal with. Im comfortable in my skin.
So comfortable, in fact, that he would treat them as he would any other heterosexual teammate.
Ill still high-five them. Pat them on the butt when hes doing good, and go on about my business.
Thanks for clearing that up, AD.
