School RN's advocate, educate and protect our students, families and districts. We provide, social, emotional and physical support to EVERYONE on campus, not just the students. We write care plans/IHP's, we assess, we delegate, we think outside the box that we are given and look at long term goals for health success. We help to find financial resources for parents and staff regarding health care. We empower the chronic and acutely ill person to take control of their body, mind and spirit by educating them on ways to help themselves using the nursing process. We coordinate with other medical professionals to provide not just the "standard of care" but the optimal level of health for each individual student. We are constantly educating ourselves in an extremely complex medical world that is dynamically changing the way we deliver safe care daily. We watch local and national legislation to better arm ourselves and communities. Having a qualified RN in your school should be one of the most powerful tools you hire in your district. If after reading this passage, you don't feel the same way, we have so much more to discuss.
