One newbie to the Oklahoma art scene is displaying his work for the first time. Tom Glover is experimenting with a style of art called triptychs, in which three different paintings form together to be one larger painting if put next to one another.
“This is the first time I’ve shown my work anywhere, so I’m curious about what kind of reaction there will be,” said Glover, age 79.
His watercolor paintings are on display at the American Civil Liberties Union building, 3000 Paseo Drive. They can be seen now on appointment, but will be open during next weekend’s Paseo Arts District First Friday Gallery Walk.
“What I like about it there is when you exhibit you work in a gallery, it’s just one of hundreds of different paintings and gets kind of lost in the shuffle,” he said. “At the ACLU, mine is the only stuff that’s up, so it kind of stands alone and it’s a little easier to look at.”
The retired architect calls art his “twilight career.” He has dabbled in art throughout his career, but delved deeper into it since he retired from his day job.
Five sets of triptychs are on display at the ACLU, and each individual painting is for sale for $200, or $570 for a set of three, making a triptych. For more information about the gallery walk, call 525-2688 or visit thepaseo.com. —Carmen Forman
