Violins, Christmas concertos and the acoustics of the Gold Dome building will combine to create one unforgettable night of music.
The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma is bringing back its Holiday Concert Under the Dome with Yuval Waldman.
The internationally renowned Waldman is an artist-in-residence at USAO and has worked with the university on other concerts. With his roots in Russia, he’s performed all over the globe.
Waldman performed a violin concert in March focused on music of oppression and liberation. All of the works were from composers who were killed during the Holocaust or persecuted by Soviet Communist regimes.
“We have a long-standing and very warm relationship with Yuval, so this is just one of the ways we cultivate that relationship,” said USAO spokesman Rob Vollmar.
Waldman chose the iconic Gold Dome, 1112 N.W. 23rd, for the concert because of the acoustics of the building and the intimate atmosphere. Also, he and USAO figured they would draw a bigger crowd if it was held in Oklahoma City, instead of USAO’s home base in Chickasha.
Waldman will pair with a choir from the Harding Fine Arts Academy for some carols. The choir plans to sing a carol in Spanish and one in Haitian. Tickets are $10-$20, and the concert begins 3 p.m. Sunday.
“It’s going to be a very cosmopolitan Christmas concert experience that will be like a world tour of how people celebrate Christmas all around and during different periods of time,” Vollmar said.
