Zoo hosts dental fair, pumpkin feeding

Give your kids something to smile about Saturday with a trip to the Oklahoma City Zoo. Children can choose to show off their pearly whites at "Smile Safari," or watch their favorite animals put theirs to good use at the "Pumpkin Chomp N' Stomp."

Hosted by the Oklahoma Dental Hygienists' Association, the "Smile Safari" will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Global Plaza, and is recommended for children 11 and under.

The safari fun will include health screenings, interactive stations and giveaways. Children will learn how to brush their teeth and take care of their gums through fun games, such as putt-putt golf. Admission is required to enter the zoo, but all of the activities are free. Children will walk away with a new toothbrush and a new appreciation for dental hygiene.

At the "Pumpkin Chomp N' Stomp," children can watch a variety of animals enjoy pumpkin snacks and other tasty treats from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visitors can watch while the African crested porcupines, Galapagos tortoises and grizzly bears Will and Wiley devour the treats made by their caretakers.

The "Pumpkin Chomp N' Stomp" is a part of the zoo's enrichment program, which is designed to stimulate interaction within the animals' environment and encourage their natural skills and behaviors. A schedule for the feedings will be posted in the Global Plaza.
